Mothballs. Posted on 01/18/2003.

I've gotta do something else with this site. I've got ideas. More essays. No blogging. New organization.

When this will all happen, I don't know. Until then, this site is pretty much mothballed.

too bad. I've bookmarked your blog & read it every day...but I understand the time constraints.

All the best!

Peter,

Yours is the first blog I ever saw, linking from an article on "face-blindness." That may have been in 1999. I have been a constant reader ever since.

Through you, I have "met" many of the great writers on the web.

Through you, I have learned of the cutting-edge issues in computer science, web communication, useability, sociology, and many other areas. I have also heard what books are valuable, what movies are entertaining.

What you have been doing with peterme.com has been great. I am confident that what you do with it in the future will be even better.

Thanks for the good reads and great insights.

Shalom Peter

Thanks for Peterme. I hope you will read this comment.

There seem to be some sort of "community" gathered around your weblog. I suggest setting up some sort of mechanism that will notify us if anything changes or maybe sending email to all those who commented publiclly?

Wow. Site redesign.

I was just thinking of you yesterday, Peter. I was thinking of all the things I want to do with Ethknow and I was trying to think what a smartie like you would do. What questions to ask myself if I finally get around to redesigning the darned thing?

I'll be watching this space.

Thank you for this look into what you are thinking and for this open environment for others to think out loud.

Dropping the treadmill of the blog is a good thing. Some of its good features: the spontaneity, the rawness of self-documentary, the peek-a-boo into someone else’s narrative. Are also some of its bad: lack of reflection, too self-referential, and too time consuming. I’d prefer to know what you really think, not what you thought of first off. Good luck.

Hi Peter - Seems like many of the weblog authors who tend to write about the things we tend write about are having similar thoughts.

Lately, I've sensed a real lull in the experience design blog community. I hope it's because we're all in such high demand.

Your vague thoughts for the next iteration of peterme.com ring true though. I just re-designed brad lauster (dot com) with a similar goal in mind - less blogging.

I guess I'm just tired of the link-whoring. I figure there are more than enough sites out there linking to the cool-thing-of-the-day — and they all do it better than I, so no more of that for me.

I'm going to try to spend my time writing the things that I think aren't being said, the things about which I have meaningful opinions and the things where I can help others learn what I think needs to be taught.

I don't know...it's an experiment — my site always has been, so we'll see how it goes.

Best of luck with the new peterme.com. I look forward to the changes to come!

The basic idea of bringing the cost of sharing down to zero was well worth the late nights of blank stares at the keyboard.

The basic idea was overwhelmed by the movement that took it up. "Connection overwhelming meaning," indeed. (Thanks Kevin Kelly, you rascal).

Thanks to the powers that be for people who stay ahead of the pack, always heeding the nagging feeling that it's time to move on, move forward, fail, futz, fart around, finally succeed.

Thanks Peter

Long form vs. short form.

I've long asked Winer and friends to support long form writing. Help me stitch many threads of writing into a new whole, generate navigation aids, autosave frequently, maybe even a distraction-free writing area.

Writing essays takes deeper and longer chains of thought, almost counter to the whimsy of blog everything culture.

You're right, Peter. We need a whole new user experience. I'm eager to see you progress and evolve!

Good luck. - phil

So long and thanks for all the fish. Please let me know if you come back.

P.S. Inspired by your last post on a Gawker for Berkeley, I've set something like that up at www.berkeleyblog.com (live in a day or two). If you are interested in being a guest author, let me know.
